Best Soccer Leagues in the World
What are the best football or soccer leagues in the world? No matter what name you call the beautiful game there is no doubt that this is the most popular sport in the world with many professional leagues governed by FIFA in every continent.
In recent years, wealthy leagues have become more popular than much older leagues due to being able to attract high profile players such as the Saudi Pro League (Al Naasr FC), by bringing in Cristiano Ronaldo, and Major League Soccer (Inter Miami) by bringing in Lionel Messi. But, how does this wealth affect the ranking of the best leagues in the world?
That is exactly what we will be exploring in this blog by ranking the best leagues around the world.
How Many Professional Soccer Leagues are there in the World?
In the modern era of the game there are currently over 200 professional leagues in every continent, Europe, Africa, Asia, North America, South America, and Australia, with a huge variety of quality, competitiveness, popularity, and salaries.
Many countries have multiple domestic leagues that are part of a relegation and promotion system while a few other countries have a fixed league system, such as the United States. This means that the number of professional leagues vary from country to country, but every country has a top flight division.
For example, England has four full professional leagues with the Premier League being the best league in the country, and arguably the world, while the United States only has one league that is officially governed by FIFA, Major League Soccer.
Over the last few decades Europe has been the home of world football housing the world’s top teams and the biggest names, but in recent years the rise of wealthy leagues has attracted big names and may cause a shift in ranking in the near future.
What are the Best Soccer Leagues in the World?
Ranking the best leagues in the world comes down to personal preference and opinions and can also vary due to what variables are most important, the amount of viewers per week, the amount of major trophies won by domestic teams in continental tournaments, or other variables.
This list was made by reading through official league rankings, other league ranking lists, as well as my own personal opinions.
